Gala Wanderers went into the local derby against Hawick hoping to continue their unbeaten start to the season, however, it was going to prove a tough ask as they found themselves 14-0 down after 15 minutes against a very determined and well organised Hawick outfit.
Gala dug deep towards the end of the half and despite Hawick scoring again before the break, the Wands scored three of their own from Rowan, Omar and Rory, each converted to make the score 21-21 at the interval.
The second half was more of the same to-and-fro in relation to points scored with two further tries from each team (Jamie and Sam for Gala) with Gala’s second score being from the last play of the game which took the scoreboard to 31-33 with the conversion attempt still to come from the far right touchline.
The kick itself went left and short of the sticks however the Hawick Scrum Half flew off the try-line and, before the ball landed, volleyed the ball behind himself and over his own posts to gift Gala the 2 points needed to secure what overall was probably a fair 33-33 draw in a very entertaining game.
Next up for the lads is their final Scottish Cup group game at home on Saturday against West of Scotland.
